Father's Day

We have had a really great Father's Day and a whole weekend with some of our favorite visitors - Grandma and Grandpa Wilson!  I didn't take all that many pictures so we shall resort to cell phone pictures once again...

Friday night, my parents arrived and we went out to dinner at Macaroni Grill... YUM!  After that we headed to the mall to get Jed his Father's Day gift, a new phone.  He has now joined the ranks of most of the rest of civilization and once again has a smartphone (as opposed to a dumbphone).  He was very excited (and has taken several dozen pictures of Lainey already)!

Saturday morning, our little alarm clock named Lainey woke us up bright and early and we headed downtown to the Farmer's Market before the crowds and the heat got too intense.  We devoured some breakfast burritos and scones from La Mie and walked around a bit...

and then headed home for Lainey's nap and then lots of play time with Grandma and Grandpa.  She really charmed the pants off those two all weekend long.  She was so much fun - lots of "talking," goofy smiles and crawling ALL over the place.  Saturday afternoon, my parents took Lainey to visit her Great Grandma and other family in Knoxville...
while Jed and I went to a wedding!  We had a fun night out, just the two of us!

Today was Father's Day!  It was great to be able to celebrate with both my own dad... (How sweet is this...?)

and Lainey's dad!  Two great, great men who I love very much and am so thankful for!  We all went to church, had a big, delicious celebratory lunch and then my parents headed home.  We topped off Father's Day doing one of Jed's favorite things - taking his other "little one" SIMON, to the dog park.  It was Lainey's first trip and we all had a good time!  It's funny how much dogs age from one year to the next.  Last year, when we would take him to the dog park, he would literally not stop running for the entirety of our visit.  He would chase the big dogs like a mad man.  Today, he was a bit more reserved and even laid down at one point!  He actually kept pretty close to Lainey and I, I think to protect her from the other dogs (who were all very friendly).

I love "special" days like today and I love celebrating people, but I don't ever want it to be just a once a year thing.  Jed is a truly wonderful dad every day - he loves getting smiles out of his little girl, helping her learn and explore new things and giving her lots of love and affection.  He has the right attitude about entrusting our family to the Lord and is not anxious or worried about what our life might look like with this new little baby come November, but is just excited for the opportunity to be blessed with another child.  I am thankful to have been able to watch him learn how to be a dad and have been so encouraged by how he has owned this role over the past 10 months.  He is a natural!

Lainey wanted me to add that she thinks her dad is the best dad EVER!
